How to sync the time of the VMs that are managed by VMware Integrated Openstack

Hi

All our hosts, AD/DNS, vCenter are synced with NTP server.

When we are launching a VM from VMware Integrated Openstack, we can see a time lag of 5-10 minutes. Why is this happening? How to sync the time of VMs to that of NTP server?

Do we have to configure NTP client on each guest OS that are managed by VMware Integrated Openstack. Please help here.

Is it mandatory that the VMs should have VMware tools integrated installed on the VMs?

Thanks

Hi!

Simplest way I see it: set NTP on the ESXi hosts executing the OpenStack instances. The hwclock in the GuestOS should be passed by the underlying hardware.

Hope this helps!

Hi

All the Hosts where OpenStack VMs are instantiated synced with NTP server.

The vCenter, AD/DNS, Hosts are synced with NTP server. However, when the VMs are instantiated we see a lag in the time.

Can you please let me know if some modifications needs to be done?

Thanks

Uhm, I would suggest then to use images with VMware tools (or openvmtools) installed for a more precise time configuration.
