Migrating from the vSphere 7 ICM course to vSphere 8 ICM - FAQ

Hi all,

Below the most common questions and answers regarding moving your teachings from vSphere 7 ICM to vSphere 8 ICM content.

 

Overview 

Q. Were the topics covered in lecture changed drastically from the VMware® vSphere®: ICM v7 course? 

  • About 85% of the topics covered in the vSphere: ICM v7 course are the same as in the vSphere: ICM v8 course. 

 

Lecture 

Q. Were any topics moved to a different portion of 
the course? 

  • Yes. The lessons about creating virtual machines (VMs) were moved to module 7 in the vSphere: ICM v8 course. 

 

Q. Were any topics removed from the lecture? 

  • Yes. Most of the content related to Kubernetes, Baselines, vSAN™ and vCenter® Performance Charts and Alerts were removed and added to other courses such as vSphere: Operate, Scale and Secure v8. 

 

Q. Were any topics added to the lecture? 

  • Yes. Multiple lessons about vCenter Content Libraries were added. Also, there were some small additions such as a page on VMware vSphere+. 

 

Q. Does the vSphere: ICM v8 course cover new features of vSphere 8? 

  • No. Those topics are covered in other courses such as vSphere: Operate, Scale and Secure v8. 

 

Labs 

 

Q. Were any major changes made to the topics covered in the lab exercises? 

  • No. But the lab exercises were reordered to match lecture topics order. 

 

Q. Were any major changes made to the lab environment? 

  • Yes. All Windows operating systems were removed from the lab environment. 

 

Q. Will vSphere v8 run on the same physical hardware as vSphere v7? 

  • Maybe. Some older CPUs are no longer supported. For details, see KB 82794. 

 

Q. Where is the lab setup guide for the vSphere: ICM v8 course available? 

 

Q. Are prebuilt lab environment VMs available 
through CSSIA?

  • Yes. On your Gilmore Global portal website, enter “vSphere” or “V8” in the search field.

Q. Are there ways to get hands-on experience with 
vSphere v8? 

  • Yes. IT Academy instructors can request demonstration access to the vSphere: ICM v8 labs on the NDG website. You can also use the free vSphere v8 VMware Hands-on Labs. 

 

Q. Are there any videos covering the changes to the vSphere: ICM course?
