why can't I increase the size of the virtual hard disk?

Hi there, I've been trying to increase the hard disk on my virtual machine, but I can't seem to get it right, I guess. At least, it's not showing up as changed from within my virtual machine. I've clicked on settings (with my virtual machine off), gone to the hard disk section and dragged the little cursor over to the desired space. I've also checked the two box options, pre-allocated disk space and split into 2GB files. Then when I reboot my machine it still shows a very annoying "critical lack of space". Any ideas? Thanks so much.

Increasing a disk in a VM is a two step process. the first is increasing the .vmdk as you have don. The second is two ensure that Windows (or other OS) sees the disk increase within the VM.

If your increasing the d-drive, then see the following link:

if your increasing c-drive then use a tool like partition magic or this link (which is a little comlicated...)
