While I certainly can't comment on our release schedule, I'm interested to know what specific features are you looking for in the next major version?
What would you like to see Fusion do that it doesn't do today?
Hi,
As you probably know, VMware does not comment on things like upcoming features or release dates...
Best guess? End of August, begin September.

Fusion 8.5 was the new version for this year as far as I've come to understand.

ALREADY PASSED more than a year and 9 version Not come... is it coming soon????
Sorry if I wasn't clear, but there was no 9.0 instead we got 8.5.

Nobody here knows. And any who *might* know won't tell.

Hi Mike,
Couple of thoughts:
- Automatic shrink for OSX guests
- DX 11 support for Win 10 Guests (back to my DragonAge III not working)
- APFS support on both guest and host. Based on what Apple did with iOS 10.3, we may see it prior to OSX 10.12, but it's sure to make an appearance then.
As always, performance improvements greatly appreciated ![]()
Hi,
Personally I would like to see better scripting support via either AppleScript or javascript for automation.
In Fusion 6 there was some AppleScript support, but that's evaporated, it would be nice if that could return (and improved upon)

Thanks dlhotka, great suggestions.
Regarding APFS, I am pretty confident that we'll 'just get that' from Apple. Our software is transparent to the FS layer (i.e. we're just a bunch of files). We care a lot more about what happens in EFI and to boot sector stuff. For example, the "new" little baby Macbook changed things up because it uses 4K sectors on it's SSD, and that messes up how we handled Bootcamp import because previously we pointed to a specific "physical" area of the disk that Apple always had set aside for Bootcamp. With 4K sectors, the sector addresses changed and it was broken on that hardware until we adjusted things. We of course didn't know Apple was introducing these changes either ![]()
So anyway, I hear ya and our devs say that it should be transparent.
Unless there was something more specific you were thinking about with respect to some new capability within APFS itself, I'm all ears for that.
As long as we're floating suggestions...
View and edit the vmnet1 & vmnet8 settings would be great. cat/grep to get at that info is messy and hard to explain to people.
OVA import shouldn't play dead when it hits a property element. Either let me ignore them or better yet, dynamically convert them to vmx entries.
Jumbo frame support on the vmnets would be a nice to have.
A better scripting interface than vmrun, and vmrun should be in sync with the other vmruns.
A vmware-mount function I can call from a script. like the one that sorta works in workstation on linux. The vdiskmanager / hdiutil dance is impractical on larger thin provisioned disks.
What would you like to see Fusion do that it doesn't do today?
Please forgive the snarkiness, but I would love it if VMware would call a timeout and devote large scale resources to fix bugs. The many bugs are really hurting the product as a whole.
There are features that used to work, but have been broken for some time. Based on many posts in the forums, VMware Fusion stability is poor - I see many reports of crashing and outrageously slow performance.
My pet bugs are:
* The mini windows in the VMware Fusion Library window. They used to show actual miniature copies of the virtual machine displays. Now they are broken and do not update.
* Virtual machine windows keep grabbing focus in Unity mode. For me, it makes Unity mode useless.
I second @dlhotka's request for automatic shrink of OS X virtual machines.
Thanks Mike. I'm just gun shy these days - Apple seems to be dropping in major changes without any warning, and given their steady decline in software quality, there's a real risk of things choking bad. I plan to run an OSX guest VM and beat the heck out of it before upgrading, so APFS guest support is most critical.
It wouldn't surprise me if they drop some bombs for hosts too, but as you say, there's nothing we can do about that.
I'm waiting for the massive number of 'ios 10.4 bricked my phone and I don't have a backup' posts to hit the forums. This is *not* the time to rely on an iCloud backup! I only wish we had a CCC for iOS ![]()
I , for one, would like to see the following supported...
1) DirectX11 and higher support
2) OpenGL ≥ 4.1
3) 4 and 8GB of virtual VRAM
4) Support for the AMD Radeon Pro 580 w/8GB VRAM... able to efficiently
use this Host GPU Card
5) Shader Model Support Version 3.0 or better
6) Add the ability to create a VMware Client/VM from a BootCamp drive AND the ability to backup
the VM Bootcamp client to the Bootcamp partition.
7) The ability to convert a W10 client to the BootCamp partition.
Make VMware Fusion faster than Parallels at everything, but those things that impact users most first.
I would like to see automatic VMware Fusion Tools installed in Ubuntu much as it happens in Windows. You must use commands in Ubuntu for tools to install.
