vmware-rawdiskCreator restrictions?

I'm trying to make a vm disk that will point to a usb ide drive. Does the vmware-rawdiskCreator utility only work with internal drives?

I'd like to run an oem disk utility through a vm so that I don't have to have my host machine tied up dos only enviroment for countless hours.

TIA

I don't think vmware-rawdiskCreator works with USB drives (I believe it does with internal drives or Firewire drives).

Unless you need to boot from the USB drive, though, you could directly connect it to the virtual machine as a USB drive.

Well, I'm looking to boot off of an .iso provided by an OEM. I was hopping to 'internalize' the usb drive by way of the raw disk creator. This way, the utility would see the drive in only way it knows how, as an ide drive.

I'll try the firewire route, although I have to adapt it to work.

Can you forward this to the suggestion box? The value should be apparent. The industry is slanted toward usb- might as well go the whole nine yards.
