vmware on 2013 MacBook pro

The MacBook I use has only 251GB of SSD storage and I have run into space issues.  I use one-drive and store as many files as is practical in the cloud so that I have space on my machine.  As you can see by the graphic attached space is critically low.  I am wondering if the MacBook is seeing files in one-drive and using that data to calculate how much space is left on the MacBook.  I arrive at that conclusion because when I then select Manage, and see the list of large files they are all on one drive which is in the cloud, (see attached screen shot). Yes I have removed them from the vmware folders using the one drive feature of Free up Space which essentially puts the file into the cloud and off your computer.

So I am at a loss as to how to fix this problem and would appreciated any help that someone may be able to offer.

Mark.

Onedrive still downloads local copies of files when you edit or open them, they arent edited "in the cloud"

This should help you understand how OneDrive stores files: Save disk space with OneDrive Files On-Demand for Mac - OneDrive

If you are not running Mojave or later, you don't have any option - OneDrive WILL be storing a local copy of every file.
