vmware fusion 12 player not installing on Catalina

After downloading the Personal Use VMware Fusion Player and mounting the dmg it will not allow installation.  The error is that it says it requires Mac OS 11.  The web documentation says Player 12 is also compatible with Catalina.  I have Mac OS 10.15.7.   The Player version is 12.2.1.

What is the solution?

The message is correct. Fusion 12.2 and later requires macOS 11 Big Sur or later.

For Catalina, download and install Fusion 12.1.2. This is the last release that supports Catalina. Your license will work with that version.

What Technogeezer says..

Here's a download link:

https://customerconnect.vmware.com/downloads/details?downloadGroup=FUS-1212&productId=1040&rPId=5596...

(Please note that you might have to click that link 2 times, one time to log in and the next time to actually download as VMware's fine redirect process has been broken for ... eons)

You mean the free personal license? Officially that's only offered for the current version of VMware Fusion.

Having said that.. you might still have luck with what's being described here: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/Obtain-Personal-Use-license-for-Fusion-1...
