vmrun tool doesn't work after the latest Mac-OS security update

Hallo,

it seems that the vmrun-utility no longer works properly after the latest Mac-OS security update (2015-004).

If I try to run a guest application (runProgramInGuest), I will only get an error message:  Error: Invalid user name or password for the guest OS

But the user credentials are valid and it worked properly before the update of Mac OS X.

I use VMWare Fusion 7.1.1, Mac-OS 10.9.5 as host os and mac-os 10.10.3 or 10.9.5 (with security update 2015-004) as guest os.

I urgently need a solution for this problem. Any ideas or workarounds to fix this problem would be very nice.

Many thanks in advance.

jens

EmoryP is right and I am very disappointed VMWare Inc. has done nothing so far.

We opened a support ticket April 14th for this issue.

"runProgramInGuest was working normally until we tested an upgrade to OS X 10.10.3. "

Automating VMWare Fusion is mission-critical to our business.  Any feedback from VMWare on progress for this issue would be great.

Hi folks,

We've been investigating this problem.  Unfortunately, Apple's recent security update has changed the behavior of one of the internal facilities we depend upon for the "runProgramInGuest" feature.  We're continuing to work on it, but please be warned that our present understanding is that it's going to be difficult for us to achieve what we need with this new behavior... it will not be a lightweight, easy or rapid fix.

I'll try to keep you updated on progress.

Thanks,

Any good new for 8.0.2 ?

Is there any other way to get 10.10 or 10.11 guests to work with vmrun?

No good news. The change we are making to fix this issue impacts enough things that we did not feel comfortable putting it in 8.0.2 without enough testing. So it will have to wait for the next micro update. Sorry. That is bad news for you, but at least that is news.

Hi All

The issue is fixed in the latest vmware-tools 10.1.0 build.

You can find it from

https://my.vmware.com/web/vmware/details?downloadGroup=VMTOOLS1010&productId=491

follow these steps:

Uninstall VMware Tools

Reboot guest OS

Install VMware Tools

Reboot guest OS.

If it still doesn't work , please let me know

Regards

Thanks. It works after installing it. However, updating VMWare Fusion overwrote the tools with a version that doesn't have the fix in.

When will this fix make it to VMWare Fusion?

Doesn't work for Yosemite! Any help?

Host: Sierra

Guest: Yosemite

The installer for VMWare tools you provided, targets only Mac OS X 10.11 and laters. So We are still stuck with that issue if we want to run a Yosemite (10.10) guest.
