vm hanging whenever trying to access .host folders "Connection Failed"

My virtual machine is constantly hanging whenever I try to connect to my host machine. My host -- a MacBook Pro 3,1 -- has an IP address handed out by my university (dynamic); that being said, it doesn't change, so I don't think that's the problem. I have the VM network as NAT.

I get the message:

"Connection failed: The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."

I've only had this happen since I've upgraded to Leopard (10.5.1). I am running VMware Fusion Version 1.1 (62573). I've tried everything -- rebooting, reinstalling VMware (while deleting all associated files), even going back to an older "machine" that I'd backed up. Still happening.

Should I put my machine's IP address in manually in Windows' network settings?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
