slow performance

I have been experiencing very slow performance from while operating my virtual machine. Opening programs takes a very long time after double clicking the ask top icon, when i flip back over to the OS side the performance is also very slow compared to when the virtual machine is suspended. Any thoughts?

What's the configuration of the guest (Cores/RAM) and what's the configuration of the host?

In Fusion, virtual machine, settings, processors and memory.

Then from OSX, the apple menu, about this mac, processors and memory.

In Fusion if under processors and memory it shows 2576 MB remaining for the Mac

In OS X  it shows 169 GB free.

Not quite, I need to know how much memory is in your computer and what processor it has (that's from the apple->about this mac menu item), and how many cores and how much memory is set for the virtual machine to use (which is under virtual machines->Settings->memory and CPU).
