recover 2.0 license

I purchased 1.0 and still have that license. At some point I got the free 2.0 upgrade and I guess my key was automatically updated or I just don't remember getting this key. I recently had to do an archive install of leopard (disk corruption) and now vmware is prompting me for a license and my 1.0 key doesn't work. Is there a way to get the license off my time machine backup?

We didn't change anything in the license key system, there is no modification on upgrading from 1.x to 2.x. Note that after you reinstall OS X, you should reinstall Fusion (this doesn't affect your virtual machines). An improperly installed copy of Fusion (such as recovered from a backup or transferred from another computer) might reject license keys.

In addition to what Eric said...

If you registered then go to VMware Account Management Home and click on Find Serial Number or retrieve the License File from the Archived Install or Time Machine. The normal FQP is "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/license.fusion.site.6.0.200610".
