"internal error" when running fusion 8.5.5 after upgrading from 7.3.1 on Sierra

See attached.

I get the error on all virtual machines I try to open.

I managed to open them on Sierra with version 7.3.1

This morning I upgraded and since then all virtual machines do not open.  One I click "play" I get "internal error".

Please assist

Hi Erez,

Could you please try below steps to see if your problem can be solved?

1. Remove Fusion completely

2. Execute the below commands:
    xattr -l ~/Downloads/VMware-Fusion-8.5.5-5192483.dmg

    xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine ~/Downloads/VMware-Fusion-8.5.5-5192483.dmg

3. Reinstall VMware Fusion from the dmg

Does the issue persist after rebooting the Mac?

by removing completely do you mean erasing it from the "application" folder?

ok, the solution you provided worked well.

There was one thing i had to do in addition to that:  instead of deleting the file from the application folder i searched for it all over my file system and erased any instance that I found:

sudo find / -iname "*Fusion*" -type d

sudo find / -iname "*vmware*" -type d

and then i deleted all of the instanced that I found using:

rm -fr <path>

I restarted the machine and made sure fusion was missing from LaunchPad.

After that I performed what you asked me for and it worked.

Would you care to elaborate what was the problem and what the solution did to mitigate it?

From what I understood the first command:

xattr -l ~/Downloads/VMware-Fusion-8.5.5-5192483.dmg

displays the "extended attributes"

and xattr -dr

deletes them from the installation file.

what is the effect of those attributes on the installation ?
