"Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory" - Mac / Mojave

Hi all,

Ive tried install VMware Fusion 8 on my Mac Pro running Mojave.

Install is fine, but when i try to run my VM I get the following:

"Could not open /dev/vmmon: No such file or directory. Please make sure that the kernel module `vmmon' is loaded."

Ive gone into security preferences, but theres no option to click allow, as Ive seen other people do to resolve the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas how to fix this?

Best,

Seb

Only Fusion 11 is supported on Mojave, so you might need to upgrade: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2088571

You can't purchase Fusion 11 anymore.

The way to get Fusion 11 is to buy Fusion 12 and then exercise the option to downgrade the license to Fusion 11.
Not sure, but the license from Fusion 12 might actually activate your Fusion 11 without having to go through the downgrade license procedure. I kinda remember @Mikero mentioning this.

A commercial license for Fusion 12 Pro will unlock Fusion 11 Pro.

We did that exactly to avoid the whole 'downgrade licenses in MyVMware' process.
