We have a Windows XP SP3 image that was created with VMWare Server. We want to make a copy of this vm and install it on a removable hard drive and run within VMWare Fusion on a Mac running OS X 10.5 (latest). Here's what we did:
1. shut down the VM on its Windows host.
2. copied the VM files to the removable hard drive. The byte count is correct -- all 14GB of it.
3. connected removable drive to a Mac Book Pro that has Fusion on it.
4. can see the VM in the Virtual Machine Library UI of Fusion.
5. click on it to start it. It asks for an upgrade. If I choose Upgrade, it says there is a file not found, but doesn't say what file it is. If I choose NOT to upgrade, it still says there is a missing file.
How can I troubleshoot this? What could be wrong?
