Hi all,
I'm using vmware fusion 5.x, how can I connect to another machine having shared VMs on a workstation server (running on Linux with Vmware workstation v8.x). I cannot find any hints how to do that.
Any help would be appreciated.
thx.
regards,
Thorsten
what do you mean by 'connect to'?
ping it? \\<servername>\path\...? VNC....? see desktop??? or run the shared VM remotely in Fusion??
In VMware Workstation 8. X you can connect to another Workstation Server to Start and use a Shared Vm from this Workstation Server. How can I do that from Fusion?

how to connect to shared vms from workstation server

I'm also wondering about this. From what I can find Fusion Professional isn't able to Connect to server. I would really like this feature in Fusion as macbook's are great hardware but all my development work is done thru virtual machines needing ton's of memory = SharePoint.

Although I don't quit understand Shared VM in workstation, you could access the VM via network for Fusion. Click "Go" on your Mac finder menu bar, and select "Connect to Server...", then enter the IP or host name of your workstation server, navigate to the VMs, you could open it with Fusion. The pre-condition is that you have write permission on that server.
Hi nancyz,
Thanx for your response but that's not the solution :-). "Connect to server..." is a VMware Workstation command to connect to another VMware Workstation.
In VMware Workstation you can on one computer use the software as a server-plattform and share your virtual machines with other users. Other users can connect to the "server-plattform" by using Connect to server... in their VMware Workstation and remote control the virtual machines. It's similar to Remote Desktop. I would love having this in VMware Fusion giving "total freedom" of hardware and OS to the user.

Unless something changed recently (I've been out of the Fusion loop for a while), Fusion does not have this capability.
And now (Fusion Pro 7) it finally does. 🙂
