how do specify the opening of a doc to use a windows app from within the finder in the mac side ?

Specific example: received an MS office (windows .doc) in the mail, save to folder. OpReveal in the finder, try to open it with MS word (windows), but that is not a choice of application. Instead, forced to move app to shared folder, switch to windows, and open it from within windows. Is there a workaround ? thanks for your help.
