host gig ethernet port only appears as 10 mbps in VMWare

My MBP's gig ethernet port connected to a Gig switchport only appears in my WinXP Fusion desktop as 10 Mbps. Does anyone know if there is a limitation on what a speed a VMWare port will support? I've tried both NAT and Bridged configurations with no change.

You need to install VMware Tools for the NIC to connect above 10 Mbit.

With the VM running... VMware Fusion menu bar > Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools
