fusion file for vm has grown over time, then split in two

File for some reason split in two at some point, maybe there is a file size limitation?  Anyway, i've since removed snapshots, compacted.  It's better, but the two files still bother me.

Is there a way to compress this back into two files, making it as small as it can be?  I see an incredible amount of vmdk files eg. Windows7-000001-s0054.vmdk.   I thought these were snapshot files but I've only got one snapshot.

Thnx

VMware Fusion used the 2GB sparse file format by default. With this file format virtual disks are split in multiple files, where each of these files can grow up to a size of 2GB. This has several advantages over the monolithic file format, so you shouldn't worry about the format. Both file formats require the same amount of disk space to store the data.
