You do not have permission to open the application "VMware Fusion.app"

I recently installed Big Sur and the latest VMware Fusion version 12.1.0.

When I click on the Dock Icon to open it, I get an error message that I do not have permission to open the App. It also generates a crash report.

Screen Shot 2021-01-20 at 1.06.55 PM.png

I can click on the Icon again a 2nd time, and then it opens and runs normally.  I works fine for a day or two, and then the same behavior repeats. I attached the crash report.

Any ideas? I have the free version, so no support is available unless I pay for it.

Thanks!

George

did you install and run as an administrator?  Have you tried removing and re-adding the dock icon from the applications folder?

Yes, I did install and run it with my administrator account. I just removed and re-added the dock icon. I also restarted my iMac. It started fine this time. But my experience has been that it works fine for 2-3 days, and then it fails to start with the "You do not have permission ..." error.  After it fails to start, it always starts ok on the 2nd attempt and keeps working for a few more days until it fails again.

I was just wondering if anyone else has seen the same issue?

I have exactly the same issue (i'm running Big Sur 11.2.2 so a little bit ahead of you but otherwise exactly the same issue and the same report!!

Anyone else getting this or can think of a reason why it fails to open on first click but then opens on second click.
