I make a lot of documents on the mac side and transfer them by drag and drop to Windows XP. However, when I open the documents on the Windows side they have lost some of the spaces between words at random intervals (a few on each page). These words thus confluence!

If I mail a document from the mac side to my mailbox on the Windows side the document survives without loss of spaces. Have others had the same experience? Workarounds except for mailing the documents?

I am using a vmware vitual disk (converted from a Boot Camp partition)

I don't have an answer however another work-a-round is to Archive the document(s) and D&D the Archive. This should preserve the contents.

Could you create an MD5 of SHA1 Sum in both OS X and Windows of a Document that this happens to and see if there is a difference? If there is a difference this would suggest the D&D operation is corrupting the copied file.

The document is not corrupted, as it reverts to its normal state with all the spaces between words when I DD it back to the mac side (and the checksum on the mac side is the same before and after). It must be a problem with Office 2007/2008 - but I have never encounted it before. And no, it doesn't help to zip the file before DD. But thank you anyway

I have the same issue. But it's not isolated to VMWare images. It also occurs when you move documents to a native Windows machine. It's a Microsoft bug I think.

I'm going to contact Microsoft and will post back here.
