Wireless printer thru vm

I am having trouble connecting my printer wirelessly to my Windows VM. The printer is currently used by my Imac and another Windows PC that I installed Bonjour on to find the printer thru the airport. When I am in the VM Bonjour cannot find the printer.

If your VM is not using bridged networking, try that.

I think I figured it out: I connect as bridged network to find the

printer and then switched back to NAT network - it all seems to

work now.

Thank you

Would you mind giving me a bit more detail as to how you got the printer working with the bridged network. I am very new to the Mac world and am fighting my way thru a serious learning curve.

I'm using Fushion on a new IMac 24" system. Do I go into the windows environment & do the 'Bridged Network' thing there?. The printer is currently connected with an Ethernet cable to the Mac Airport Extreme. I have an IMac 24 & a MacBook 15 wirelessly connected to the Airport Extreme also. The printer works just fine with the two Macs, but I can't get it working in the Windows environment.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I spent about 2 hours with the Apple Care rep on the phone today & we couldn't get it working!

No, you do it on the OS X side in Fusion. With the virtual machine selected, open the Settings and look under Removable Devices > Network. You want to choose Bridged.

It is not working as well as I thought. I used a bridged network and Bounjour was able to find the printer. But, when the network is bridged the VM cannot access the internet or print. I switched back to NAT network and had internet access and the printer printed a document. The problem is that after a document is printed you cannot print again unless you switch to bridged network and then switch back to NAT network to print. If I had to I could deal with making the switch every time I print, but it seems s though it should not involve the extra step.

When you switched to bridged mode, did you get a new IP address (go to a command prompt in Windows, then do "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" without quotes)?

Could you give me a little more direction on going to the command prompt?

Thanks

Thanks.

Wonderful, it works!

As per help from several of you, I did the following . . .

In OSX I went into the VM window/Settings/Removable Devices/ Networks &

changed the settings to the 'Bridged' choice.

Then I opened the Windows XP window & had previously downloaded the free

'Bonjour' software. I opened it and for the first time, in step 2 it found

the shared printer on the OSX ethernet network. SO I selected that & it

seems to work fine without having to switch back & forth from NAT to

Bridged.

So far, it appears to print fine in the windows environment and also in the

Mac OSX. Keep your fingers crossed.

Now I'm about to add a second laser printer to the network & we'll see how

that goes.

Thanks for all your help . . . Gary McPhee

Changing to bridged network allowed Bonjour to find the printer. It

still won't print and I cannot access the internet thru Foxfire or

Safari from the VM.

I sometimes overlook the obvious in these situations, so I'll go ahead and mention it.......

Did you install the Windows Print Driver (and any other software on the installation CD) that came with your printer in the Windows VM?

Yes. It prints fine from the VM when I connect to the network. The problem is that I lose the connection with the Mac when the VM is connected and then can not print from the Mac or check email when the VM is connected.
