Windows is stuck in middle of shutting down. What do I do?

Windows (in Fusion 2.0.8) started a shut down process. I'm pretty sure it followed a Widows update that required a restart. It is now stuck on the Windows XP logo/blue screen that shows, "Windows is shutting down." It is stuck and I don't know how to get it to finish shutting down so that it can be restarted. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you.

I don't remember if the following works with VMware Fusion 2.x but it does with VMware Fusion 3.x and later.

Press the Option key then click > VMware Fusion (menu bar) > Virtual Machine >  then click Force Shut Down

The option you mentioned does not come up. However, your answer was helpful in that I checked other menus for other commands that may help. In 2.0, it worked to go into the Virtual Machine menu along the top bar. There were a few commands that I thought would work. The one that finally did was when I held Option down and hit Reset. Thank you!
