Windows XP runs EXTREMELY slow on Unibody MacBook. Please help!

Hello everyone. This is my first post here. I'm hoping someone can provide some guidance. I purchased a Unibody MacBook last October. Shortly after that, I installed VMWare Fusion 2.0 with Windows XP Home as the guest operating system. Since my install, Windows XP has always run very slow. I upgraded to 2.0.1 when it became available and noticed no improvements.

My Set-up:

Unibody Macbook with Mac OS X 10.5.6

2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

2 GB Ram

160 GB Hard Drive

VMWare Fusion 2.0.1

Windows XP Home SP3

1 Virtual Processor

1 GB RAM

3D Graphics Accellaration on

40 GB Allocated for virtual Machine Hard Drive, SPlit into 2 GB Files

1 shared folder (between OS's)

The problems I have been experiencing are all on the Windows side. My Mac OS has been fine. What I have been experiencing is just generally VERY slow response on virtually all activities in Windows. I have noticed it most when switching between different windows and different programs while in Windows XP, when opening or saving files, java-based apps run extremely slow, Flash will work fine for a while and then slow to a crawl. My typical use is nothing too crazy. In general I have Internet Explorer, MS Word, MS Excel, and maybe one or two other business-related programs open. I'm not doing any gaming, video work, image work, or anything else that should cause a slow down.

Any ideas anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. If you need further information to help make a diagnosis, please let me know.

What I find so strange is I have a very similar set-up on my iMac at home, and Windows has always operated flawlessly, just as if it were running on a dedicated Windows PC.

Thanks for your help!

Hi,

I know you posted back in feb, but I have been having the same issues with my XP running a little slower then I would like. I would suggest that you run task manager in XP and watch the CPU, does it max out at 100% alot? If the answer is yes then thats the same issues that I am having, I'm sure that there is enough 'power' in the processor to run XP just fine but it does seem to Max out the CPU alot.

If your iMac is fine is it becuase it has a faster CPU?
