Windows 8 install "We can't connect right now" problem

I am running Windows XP Pro SP 3 in Fusion 6 (OS X 10.8.4), but now would like to install Windows 8, which I bought and downloaded from Microsoft.

When I run the setup file (Windows8-Setup.exe), it says my product key is valid, but in the next screen I get the message, "We can't connect right now." From Googling around a little I see that this message may mean that Windows does not recognize my VM as a valid platform.

Anyone had the same problem or otherwise know a workaround?

Thank you,

David

After spending several hours searching for a solution online, plus about two hours today on the phone with a Microsoft technician trying to make this work, I have given up. I know I could buy a Windows 8 disk box and try that, but I'm taking the easy way out and getting a full version of Windows 7 Home Premium instead. That way I know I will have a straightforward install with no problems. For my minimal needs I am sure Windows 7 will be fine and maybe I will upgrade to 8 sometime later.
