Windows 8.1 guest keeps resetting the default browser associated in Fusion 6

Everytime I launch Firefox, Windows keeps asking me if I wish to set it as my new default browser. Googling it shows that this is a problem reported by other users here and here but there is no solution. This doesn't happen on any system without VMWare guest tools installed. Fusion version is 6.0.2 and Host OS is Mavericks (10.9.2).

VMWare Preferences => Default Application > Both mail and web pages are unchecked.

Any solutions?

At the present time the only solution would be to uninstall VMware Tools as it's a bug in it that is at the root of the issue.  I know, not a palatable solution!   VMware is aware of it however there is no timeline on a fix as they are not allowed to discuss things like timelines by company policy .
