I created a Windows 7 64 bit VM image using the Standalone Converter. I copied to my MacBook Pro with Lion OS and when I try to open with Fusion, I get the "Blue" screen of death and then a screen which allows Windows to try and fix the problem. I select to fix, it runs, but does not fix the issue. Any one have any suggestions?
When I created the image, I chose to have it run on Fusion 4.0 also.
Please post (attach) the vmx file of the virtual machine. I guess the VM was converted using an IDE disk instead of the default "LSI Logic SAS".

Thread moved to Fusion forum.
Andre guessed right
ide0:0.fileName = "JoesWork.vmdk"
will not work
use
scsi0.virtualDev = "lsisas1068"
scsi0:0.fileName = "JoesWork.vmdk"
and read my notes about the necessary further steps

Thanks...but not really sure how I am supposed to fix it...not that mechanically inclined! :smileyconfused:
use the attached vmx instead of what you have now
then boot the VM with a Windows 7 recovery CD and follow this steps:
On the target platform boot the newly created VM into the Windows 7 Recovery CD.
After boot is finished click on the CMD-button and run regedit.
Select HKLM and then Menu > File > Load Hive.
Browse to the Windows-directory on the virtualdisk > system32\config and select the file SYSTEM.
When asked for a name enter p2v.
Then find the key
HKLM\p2v\ControlSet001\services\LSI_SAS
and set the start type to REG_DWORD 0
Then select HKLM\p2v and click Menu > File > Unload Hive.
You can close regedit now and restart.
On next boot you can start into the win7 system. It should find drivers and probably needs a reboot when done.
Thanks...one other question...is this load done on the Mac or the Windows 7 machine using the recovery disk?
You'll have to boot the virtual machine with the Windows 7 DVD/ISO.
To get to the command prompt from which you then need to run regedit.exe follow these steps:
- Put the Windows Vista or Windows 7 installation disc in the disc drive, and then start the computer.
- Press a key when you are prompted.
- Select a language, a time, a currency, a keyboard or an input method, and then click Next
- Click Repair your computer
- Click the operating system that you want to repair, and then click Next
- In the System Recovery Optionsdialog box, click Command Prompt

Couldn't I just redo the image using the converter and change some settings? It would be easier than the whole recovery disk. Again, not as affluent as you guys, but still have access to the windows machine.
Connected by DROID on Verizon Wireless
that may work
this time you would have to order to change the controller to LSI-logic ... or LSI-SAS ?
Andre - do you know which Controller-type can be patched correctly with Converter ?
I think I found it...there is a setting within the Standalone Converter which allows you to select "IDE", "LSI", or Auto...I am going to try selecting "LSI" and running it again.
Okay...so it was a setting on the VM Standalone Converter...I had no issues opening the VM image now...but I do have another question - how do I get the image on my Mac to recognize dual monitors? It is only showing a default monitor, which is not allowing me to enlarge the screen...
