Where the VM is stored on a Mac

I know the VM is stored on the main hard drive by default but I have extra internal drives and attached external drives and I would prefer to put the VM on one of these so that I can give it a decent amount of space. Is this possible and if so how?

As you walk through the New Virtual Machine Assistant you can choose to save it wherever you want.
