Folks
I just upgraded from Fusion 2 to 3.
Overall it works ok except for a Windows 2000 SP4 VM. When I started it OS complained that the VMWare SVGA driver was not compatible. I thought ok - let's update the VMWare tools. That worked too but (as usual) I got the message at the end of the install to the effect that the graphic driver should be installed manually. Again I went for it... but for the life of me I can't seem to locate in on the VMware virtual CD. Usually it would have been in
Program File\ VMware \ VMware Tools \ Drivers but all I can see are SCSI drivers ...
Any help would be most appreciated as I am not stuck with a VGA screen !http://communities.vmware.com/message/1453346/!!
I dcn't run Win2000 on my Mac.
But I have run Win2000 VMs in VMWare Server and Player. The video driver installs normally with VMWare Tools in those cases.
I did notice this on page 24 of the Guest OS guide:
After you install VMware Tools, change the Windows 2000 screen area to be greater than 640x480 pixels; if you do not change it, Windows 2000 uses the standard VGA driver, and performance will suffer.
I'd say, try uninstalling Tools, reboot Windows, then install Tools again.
uh ? Anyone ? Can't believe nobody runs win2000 under fusion 3 ?!

I just tried a Windows 2000 Pro VM with Fusion 3.0.1, and it seems to work fine.
If you need to manually install the "VMware SVGA II" video driver, it should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\VMware\Drivers\video after Tools are installed.
That was the trick (installing while screen size > 640x480). Good catch - thanks
Thanks, fixed. A different problem but your suggestion worked for moving a Server 2000 guest from Workstation to Fusion. Server 2000 startup was stalling at the agp*?.dll. Uninstall VMware Tools before moving from Workstation.
