Where are snapshots stored?

Hello all,

Sorry for what miay be a simple question, but I cannot find the answer anywhere on the site here. Does anyone know where the snapshot files are kept? Also, can I simply move or copy them to an external drive if I want to keep an external backup of the snapshot image? Thanks!

they are stored along with the virtual machine files

if you are talking about ESX here, I would suggest you to use VMware Consolidated Backup, which is a VMware Add-on and you can use it for backups

The default location of snapshot files is in the virtual machine bundle. However, snapshots are not independent copies (they depend on the base disks); copying them to an external drive will not be useful. However, assuming you're using a normal virtual machine (as opposed to a Boot Camp or other raw disk virtual machine) and that you don't have external references (you don't by default), you can move/copy the entire virtual machine bundle to the external drive.

jbruelasdgo: This is the Fusion subforum, so unless YosemiteSam posted in the wrong subforum, Consolidated Backup is not an option.

jbruelasdgo and etung had already answered this question so guess repeating it for a third time makes it official. Smiley Happy
