Assuming I have a Mac Pro with 1TB RAM, what is the max memory I can set for VMWare Fusion 11.5 guests?
Thanks,
Julius
The answer is spelled out in the UI itself.
VM Settings > Compatibility > 'use hardware version 16'
Hardware Version 16 has a maximum of:
- 64GB Ram
- 16 vCPU
- 10 NICs
- 8TB Disk space
- 3GB of vGPU memory
In our Tech Preview, the numbers are a little higher with hardware version 18 having the following maximums:
- 128GB RAM
- 32vCPU
- 10 NICs
- 8TB Disk
- 4GB of vGPU (but up to 8GB can be configured in the vmx, we'll be updating the UI in the next tech preview for that too).
Hi,
maximum memory depends on the guest operating system, not vmware Fusion.
best balance:

I used to work with ESXi and it had a limit of 32 vcpus and 256GB RAM for guests.
I am assuming there are limits for number of vcpus in Fusion as well (which I would expect to be lower than those for ESXi guests.
Being more specific, assuming I have a Mac with 1TB RAM, what would be the limit for RHEL 7 guests?
Thanks,
Julius
PS: After posting the above, I found this:
Virtual Hardware Specifications https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Fusion/11/com.vmware.fusion.using.doc/GUID-B9315DCC-437D-4373-BD71...
Which states the mem can be up to 64GB.
That doc is from 2019.
Has it been updated since?
Looks like Parallels Pro and Business editions allow guests with up to 128GB RAM...
Thanks.
I can’t see anything in the release notes which suggest larger amounts are supported: VMware Fusion 11.5.5 Release Notes
Hi,
it is not reported anywhere, but this can be useful for RHEL 7 guests
