Virtual machine not working

I have a brand new MacBook Pro running Catalina. I downloaded Fusion for the 30 day free trial. When I set up a virtual machine everything seems to go fine. But when I try to run it, I get an error message (first attachment) that is completely meaningless to me. What the heck is a "Broken pipe"? I click OK and get a 2nd error message (2nd attachment).

Can someone tell me what's wrong and how to fix it?

Also I notice when Fusion is running, the laptop fan is blowing constantly at top speed. And this is without a virtual machine running since I obviously haven't gotten that far yet. What's going on?

Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the Community,

the issues are most likely related to security settings.

Please see whether allowing VMware Fusion (ref. Re: Could not open /dev/vmmon: Broken pipe.) solves the issues.

I tried the steps in that link. But I still get the error messages.

Try the following:

1) Quit Fusion

2) Drag Fusion to the trash

3) Empty trash

4) Reboot (important)

5) Empty Trash

6) Reinstall Fusion (there's been updates, best to grab the latest 11.5.x installer

7) Make sure system preferences is closed completely (not just Red X'd, but actually quit)

:smiling_face_with_sunglasses: Run Fusion

9) Watch carefully for the warning prompts and grant permissions immediately when the dialog is on the screen

Thanks for your reply. I followed the steps completely. I thought for sure using the 11.5 installer would do the trick (I had 11.1 before). But I got the same error messages plus this new one.

Just to make sure, you're doing this from an administrator account (not a regular one)?

Check in System Preferences/Security and see if it's asking for permission for an extension to run.

Yep, it's an Admin account. The only one I created. I went into System Preferences/Security in the Privacy tab and every item that VMWare appears I've allowed permission. This is pretty disheartening because I'm going to need Fusion to work in the near future.
