Virtual machine freezes, then crashes - causes high CPU load, only resolvable by reboot.

It's occured twice to me now that my VMWare virtual machine (Windows XP, SP2, on a MacBook Pro 2.2G/2Gb, running Leopard w/ 1.1 RC1) stops responding and sends my laptop into a frenzy.

For some reason, I can't even kill the application (force quit does not work). Activity Monitor shows the Windows Server process takes 98% CPU, the logfile shows a recurring entry with this line:

(CGXKickEventHandler) failed (ipc/send) timed out

I've googled on this but found only one hit, on a forum which is down, so I can not be 100% sure that there is a direct relation between VMWare crashing and this bug occuring. Does anyone have a clue on this?

Are you using Time Machine? If so, exclude your ~/Documents/Virtual Machines folder from Time Machine.

Yes, I am, and I have excluded the folder with virtual machines for now. In the meantime I'll keep two sets of backups, then, and will keep yo posted if it happens again!
