Virtual Machine not showing up in the VMware library

    Hi

I had a Windows XP Home virtual machine which was working fine until a couple of days ago. Then I changed the location of the 'Virtual Machines' folder, and Windows XP Home doesn't show up in the library. I tried restoring the virtual machines folder to the original location, but that doesn't help. I also tried uninstalling and reinstalling VMware, doesn't help either. VMware does seem to know the machine exists, because when I try to install a Windows home edition, it gives it the name "Windows XP Home Edition 2", so I'm guessing it knows there's a 1 somewhere. I just can't figure out how to get to it and start it. If I double click on the Windows icon it shows in the virtual machines folder, I get a message saying "THe document Windows XP Home Edition could not be opened".

Can you check the permissions for Virtual Machine folder? and make usre that you have read/write permissions.

    Regards,

    Silica V.

I have read and write permissions on the folder.

You also need to check the permissions on the files within the Virtual Machine Bundle Package. Have a look at for information on the Files and where stored.

I checked those settings, and things seem to be wierd. The VMware folder doesn't show up in the Application Support. If I open Applications, I see VMware, and can open the contents from there. I have only read permissions on the contents folder, but I can't figure out how to change that.

Okay so I figured how to change the read/write settings, and made them so that I could read and write the package contents folder, but that doesn't seem to make any difference.

If you are talking about the Applications folder inside the target Virtual Machine's Bundle Package you can safely delete this folder and the contents will regenerate a needed when the target Virtual Machine is run in Unity mode.

Okay, I see what you were saying. The virtual machine bundle package is set so that I can read and write onto it. But the machine's still not showing up or opening.

However, the package contents do not have a .vmx configuration file (that according to the beginner's guide, should be there). Is that the problem with the machine?

Yes if the .vmx configuration file is missing that is a problem. You can create a new one or archive the .log files within the target Virtual Machine's Bundle Package and copy it to the Desktop and then attach it to a reply post and I'll create a new one based on the contents of the .log files.

Place the attached file in the target Virtual Machine Bundle Package and then double-click the Virtual Machine Bundle Package to run the Virtual Machine and it will populate the entry in the Virtual Machine Library window.

File Attached: "Windows XP Home Edition.vmx"

I am not talking about the VMware Fusion Application in the /Applications folder on the Hard Drive! I'm talking about the target Virtual Machine's Bundle Package.
