VNC of Console session a final product feature?

I noticed the new VM wizard put this in the config file:

RemoteDisplay.vnc.port = "5900"[/pre]

So indulged and added the missing lines:

RemoteDisplay.vnc.enabled = "TRUE"

RemoteDisplay.vnc.password = "password"[/pre]

..and Yes! it works. Please confirm this feature is intended and a final product feature of Fusion.

Thanks!

Sorry but we cannot comment on which features will be in the final release of Fusion.

Is this feature important to you? If it were available, what would you use it for?

These are the two primary reasons, I would VNC to VM consoles:

1. If I want to invite someone to use my VM, it's a lot[/b] easier to add VNC config to the VMX file than to install VNC in the Guest and get an X manager going on certain Linux distros. Especially for OS's that I have no idea that can run VNC.

2. Many times on images that do not have VMware Tools, there's the common scurge of repeating keys registered during input. The VNC console access method solves that problem quite well.

This is a "nice to have", but it doesn't need to be in the initial release!!!

However -

This would be a great feature to have. It would bring the OSX product closer to VMware server, in that remote administration would be easier. Still, it allows the product to behave like Workstation, which keeps it simple.

My only concern is how you implement encryption of the data stream. Standard VNC only encrypts the authentication, and not the data stream. I know VMware uses VNC for remote control in ESX/VMW Server, and that stream is encrypted. Hopefully you guys will support this and provide a modifed VNC viewer client to support your payload encryption.

Once again, not critical for a product that is very impressive as a "end-user" virtualization product.

Tks,

Steve

Where's the UNhelpful button? A de-merit for you. Smiley Wink

This applies to the Remote Console. For this exact feature in VMware Server the VNC stream is accessible to standard clients and is unencrypted.

This is definitely a "nice to have", but I just want to see them release a client app before Parallels consumes too many Mac users.

I know for a fact (and also based on the posts from VMware folks) that the final feature list is still somewhat up in the air. The more features, the longer until RTM, and the company I work for would \*really* like to see this product very soon. We have a \*lot* of Mac users, and a Player or Workstation "light" type app for initial release would be very advantageous to us and VMware.

Tks,

Steve

for you it is not important. As for many people VCB is not important. But it´s an very useful option. So i can use my OS X Server as a poor man´s VMware Server.

And that´s a very good point. I don´t need to implement a second system, if i need a windows Server in my Mac OS only environment.

So, please: Let that feature in! Thanks.

Bye,

Sven

Hi,

I know for a fact (and also based on the posts from

VMware folks) that the final feature list is still

somewhat up in the air. The more features, the

What do you think: Takes it longer, to delete a working feature out of the final product, or leave it where it is?

Bye,

Sven
