VMware Tools on Ubuntu 6.10 (Edgy)

I have installed the vmware tools on the latest Ubuntu build (tried both the .rpm through alien and the perl script which ended up recompiling source).

Nearly everything seems to be functioning smoothly except for support for my MacBook's trackpad. With VMware tools installed in Windows XP i can easily use two-fingered scrolling and right-clicking as well as the feature I love where my cursor is automatically grabbed by the virtual machine as I mouse over it. None of this is currently happening in Edgy Eft.

Is this due to recent changes in Ubuntu or am I overlooking something, or does Fusion not support Linux as well as XP?

I haven't tried using 6.10, but on 6.06 all of the trackpad gestures work.

I can't even get the tools installed with 6.10 - how did you do it?

Where are you getting hung up DigitalVoodoo?

It is a fairly striaghtforward install in 6.10 (probably even easier than on a default 6.06 install) since the kernel headers and C compilers are already included in the distro. I did install the 386 specific kernel and headers to see if that was the issue, but it is not.

Anyways I copied the tar.gz to my home folder and ran tar -xvzf on it to extract it

then cd into the vmware-tools-distrib and run sudo ./vmware-install.pl

you can leave everything default (hit return alot basically) and you've got it installed.

I found that the mouse-grab works spradically on edgy.

Sometimes I can move the mouse out of edgy and it is captured by OSX the first time only, on moving the mouse back over edgy, the cursor jumps about 100 pixels into the screen, then refuses to let me move it out again.

Sometimes, the cursor will not move out of edgy and leaving the cursor at the edge of the screen for a short time causes it to jump back to the middle of the screen.
