Is it possible to have VMware Fusion upgrade from version 7.1.2 to 12 or latest?

Yes,

Shut down the VM (not suspend).

Remove any snapshots.

Backup the VM (not time machine).

Install the new version of Fusion

Boot the VM (say yes when prompted to upgrade).

I know the process already but not sure if we can directly upgrade from 7.1.2 to 12? Is there any bug or error I need to take care in advance?

You’ll need to buy a license for 12 Pro, unless you could use the 12 Player license.

You also need to check compatibility with the version of MacOS running on the host system.
