Just installed VMware Fusion 4.0.1. On first run the application crashes right after requesting the sudo password:
Here's the VMware log:

Since I was just evaluating the software I do not have a software agreement to open a ticket. Any ideas would be helpful....
Running Ubuntu (among other OSs).
Upgraded from 3.x to 4.01 and now I can't attach my wlan USB or upgrade VMWare-Tools on the guest-VM anymore.
No problems when I was at 3.x, just started when I updated.
VMWare Fusion 4.01 is running on Mac OS Lion.
Have the same error messages as you described, namely:

Hi jonathanjames,
The problems you describe are unrelated to the crash issue reported above by amdman. The log snippets you included are fairly normal -- we look for optional config files in a few places, and the log notes their absence. You would probably be better served by starting new thread(s) for your two issues, and describing in detail what happens when you attempt to connect the USB device and when you attempt to upgrade tools in the guests. Include any error messages, screenshots, etc., and we can try to figure out what is happening.
Thanks!

Hi , do you know the reason for crash issue reported above by amdman?? we met same issue with in our side. we have tried 10.6.8 and 10.7.0 Mac, but the VMware Fusion always crashed when we open it. Please help us to resolve this problem.
This is an ancient thread, but I just had to deal with the same issue. Turns out the user account on the Mac had no password. Adding a password allowed Fusion to launch.
That's interesting info, tomhenderson01. I wonder how much testing we do with accounts with empty passwords...
By the way, while we're following up an old thread: The crash originally reported by amdman at the start of the thread (specifically a "signal 11" failure involving _CFAutoreleasePoolPop after a failure of first-run setup) was fixed in Fusion 4.0.2 and should no longer occur. That same release also enhances the collection of diagnostic information, so we'll record in your Library/Logs/vmware-vmfusion.log the reason for the failure of any first-run setup.
Hope this info is useful to someone out there!
