VMware Fusion 12 license?

I had to upgrade to fusion 11.5 in April because 10 quit working with the latest mac os. Now my mac just updated to Big Sur and its telling me I have to upgrade to fusion 12? I just paid 55 in April now they want another 80 for Fusion 12?

I tried the new key I had and it didn't work.

How does parallels compare i'm seriously considering switching. I'm not paying an upgrade fee every time Apple upgrades their OS.

In case you don't need the professional edition, you may go with the free edition that's available for v12.

How do I know if I need more than the free license? I have always paid for it. I do use it for work sometimes if that matters?

Check the Compare section of this page and look at Player vs Pro, although if it’s for commercial use you would need a license even if you used Player.

The Fusion product line manager's blog post may help.
