VMware Fusion 10.0.1 refuses to run any VM on High Sierra "Internal Error"

Recently upgraded to Fusion 10.0.1 from 8.x. Existing VM refuses start up, gives me the ever so helpful "Internal Error".

  • Tried tinkering with a bunch of settings and such, to no avail.
  • Tried rebooting, as suggested elsewhere. No change
  • Tried creating a new VM using the same VMDKs. no change.
  • Tried creating a virginal VM using MS-DOS. Same error.

So clearly this isn't a problem with my VM, but with my hypervisor.

Hi,

First, checking that 'App Store and identified developers' is selected in 'Security & Privacy' setting.

If still does not work,  please refer to another thread and try the following steps and run VM again

The solution from the other thread (modified to work on the 10.0.1 DMG rather than 10.0.0 obviously) worked like a champ. Thanks!
