VMWare tools crashed ubuntu 18

VMWare tools crashed ubuntu 18 VM and Ubuntu just boots into Emergency Mode. How do I fix this? How do I uninstall VMTools? I don't want to lose all my work.

I manually ran the uninstall tools and my ubuntu 18 vm still ends up in emergency mode. How do I unhose my VM?

It was unintentional as the network stopped and I hit refresh. I think it posted it a second time.

A previous post I made about making share drives mount told me to edit fstab and add the line "vmhgfs-fuse /mnt/hgfs fuse defaults,allow_other 0 0". That was causing the problem. I removed that from fstab and my VM now boots.

Did the mount point directory /mnt/hgfs exist before you added the fstab entry?
