VMWare fusion stops working on Yosemite after force quit

Hello All,

For the second time in the last 2 months I have had VMWare fusion stop working after a force quit.    The first time it happened the only way was able to get Fusion working again was to erase my drive and resinstall my machine from a time machine backup with a date prior to the problem.  I am hoping that someone can help me with this recurring issue.

Here are the details for my latest.

1. I am running vmware fusion 7.1.0 on a mac book pro running Yosemite.

2. Fusion was running and has been for well over a month

3. At the time the problem occurred I was running an Ubuntu 14.02 desktop client doing android development. I had finished building an APK and used the devices menu to map my HTC Android phone (connected via USB) the the Guest.

4. Fusion froze when I tried to map the USB phone to the Guest

5. after a few minutes of beach ball I did a force quit.

6. I then relaunched Fusion and I could see the menu but no windows... After a while my stopped VMs showed up but when when I tried to start I could get a cannot connect to some vmware agent mesg (I can't remember the exact mesg).

7. I rebooted the machine.

every since then I run VMware from my account and I can see the menu. but any action that results in displaying a window (i.e. file ->open, Preferences, etc) hangs vmware and grays out the windows.  So... VMWare is running but there are no UI elements.

Here is what I have tried.

1. login to a different account and run fusion... fusion starts up with out issue.

2. Completely remove VMWare fusion from my mac using this manual procedure

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=101783...

After removing /Application/VMWare Fusion.app and all the files in /Library and ~/Library with *VMware* and com.vmware*

i rebooted the machine.  I then did additional finds in ~/. and /Library for anything *vmware* and deleted all those files.

then rebooted again.

Then downloaded and opened the DMG.  When double clicking the DMG fusion installs but it never puts up any dialogs.  So... it remembered that it was broken and does not display info on my screen.

ps aux  | grep vmware

from a terminal shows that vmware is running

running vmware fusion results in the above.  No ui elements.

Switching to a new user and running vmware fusion brings up the initial wizard asking for a key.  Once the key is entered it proceeds as normal.

Working theory.

My guess is that although all the *vmware* an *VMWare* files have been removed from the system there are others files that have state info that in this case are corrupt and prevent vmware from running.

My question is... how do I completely restore my account so that vmware thinks that I am a new user.  What other files exist that don't have the word vmware or VMWare in their name.  A file for example that stores the license key?

3. Last time this happened I spent 2 days on the phone with vmware support and they were unable to help.  So... before I erase and restore from a time machine backup I would like to know what additional files need to be deleted to return my user account to a "virgin" state as far as fusion is concerned.

Any help in this matter is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

hello all,

here is the log file that is generated every time I run fusion...  found in ~/Library/Logs/VMWare Fusion/vmware-vmfusion.log

notice...

My guess is that this is what is causing issues with staring fusion.  What is interesting is that there are no google hits on this. Anyone have any ideas what this means?

This question remains unanswered, I am having the same problem, in vmware log it shows the following error message:

I am also using Mac Yosemite, last friday vmware was working fine, I didn't update, now it is not working anymore. I tried uninstalling, reinstalling and checking folder permissions but it didn't fix the problem. Unfortunately I do not have a time machine copy to backup my files, I need a solution. Thanks.
