Hi, I am having the same problem.  If I keep running the program it crashes and freezes after a few minutes.  I upgrade my macBook Pro three months ago from the 2010 i5 series to the 2011 i7 series.  I don't use the program much but it seemed to start after that change.

Thanks for telling me if you find the answer.  Smiley Sad

Hi,

I fixed it by reinstalling Fusion.

I MAY HAVE SOLVED THE PROBLEM.  HERE ARE SOME NOTES FOR THE FORUM.

At present I have made the Fusion 4 run properly.  These are the things I learned but which were not really obvious in my previous troubleshooting attempts.

  1. VMWare Fusion cannot run an OEM copy of Windows Vista.  The install may work for a time then it gives errors.  In my case I was trying to use an OEM copy of windows Vista Ultimate or trying to transfer a virtual PC taken from a VGN-TT16GN Vaio model PCG-4Q9P which is two years old. This difference happened after I had been using Vista in Fusion V3 for a while – so it might have been a license issue with Windows – BUT THE ERROR MESSAGES FROM FUSION AND WINDOWS WERE INADEQUATE.  I think this was my main problem which stopped me from using fusion for the last 6 months.  Actually, I think the VISTA downloads upgrades which then make it incompatible and the license validity cannot be obtained.  Perhaps this is why it seemed to work quite well in May 2010 when I first bought Fusion V3 and had Snow Leopard on my Mac.
  2. A second issue was my attempt to migrate the Vaio operating system to a virtual machine on my MAC but could not do it – always saw an error related to unable to create the file – permissions problem most likely.  Anyway, I am past that now.
  3. Fusion gave a few further installation errors after a new Windows 7 Home Premium FULL version was installed from downloaded ISO files which were burned to DVD's.  This was a temporary problem (see below).  MAYBE I HAD CANGED THE DEFAULT VALUES AND IT DID NOT LIKE THE INSTALLATION TO USE 2 PROCESSORS.  I suggest leave it to install with the defaults, then, when it is working fine, change the memory and processor values to suit your requirements.
  4. HOWEVER – I found that I could reliably install the Windows 7 from the ISO file I had downloaded from the Windows Microsoft shop THERE IS NO NEED TO MAKE THE PHYSICAL CD/DVD.
