Running Windows 10 on Fusion 12.2. Bridged mode to Thunderbolt Ethernet. Host system is MacOS 11.7.3 (BigSur). VM is configured with 2 cores a 8GB or RAM.
I get 500MB download speed on the Mac but no better than 35MB on the VM. Tried NAT and Bridged to WiFi and the speeds are a little worse for each. Tried setting the speed on the Intel adapter to 1GB on the VM as well. So far everything I read in searching around the forums hasn't yielded any positive results when I run a speed test..
I assume this is not normal. Any suggestions on what else can be checked or done to correct this? I am getting sluggish performance with browsers and anything that requires internet connection. The apps themselves run fine in the VM.
Unfortunately it is normal to have speed degradation, especially in Fusion 12 as it uses the Apple networking stack.
What's the host machine and is anything else running on it?
Host system is MacOS 11.7.3 (BigSur) on a MacBook Pro with a quad core Intel processor and 16 GB RAM. There is no active apps on it except a browser window at times. I don't mind some degradation but less than 10% from what it should be able to download is a bit on the ridiculous side. Maybe its time to test out Parallel.
It shouldn't be 10x slower (half yes, but not 10x). That machine is getting close to marginal to run virtual machines. Once you get to Monterey or later, it's going to have serious performance issues (Monterey and Ventura put a much larger load on the host - I recommend 4 cores and 8GB reserved for the host on those OS's).
How are you testing the speed? on the LAN or WAN?
Yes I do need to upgrade the hardware because my MacBook pro doesn't make the cut for Monterrey. BigSur is as far as I can go. I was waiting for Windows for ARM to get supported before making an upgrade. Looks like I can start doing so now.
For speed test I am just doing this on a LAN.
If I remember right, Fusion on Big Sur uses the Apple network stack instead of it's own. That might be the issue.
