VMWare Fusion 10 shows Black Screen

It has been a while since I've tried using my VMWare Fusion Windows 10 VM.

I noticed I can start the VM and I can see the Preview in the Library but in the VM screen I see just a Black Screen.

I found this article that describes my problem exactly https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/79989

However it says it is for VMWare Fusion 11 - My license is for VMWare Fusion 10 (currently 10.1.6)

I tried the solution anyway with no success. VMWare Fusion does not show up in the "Screen Recording" for me to authorize it.

I used the tccutil command referred in the article, and VMWare has asked for all the permissions again, except for the "Screen Recording"...

Question is: Am I forced to upgrade to a newer version of VMWare Fusion? Shouldn't the same solution work for Fusion 10? Any hints on how to fix the Black Screen issue in Fusion 10?

I am using a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Early 2013) with MacOS Catalina 10.15.7 and VMWare Fusion 10.1.6

Thanks

Alex

Fusion 10 is not supported nor tested on Catalina so it’s not surprising that a Fusion 11 workaround doesn’t work. A lot of under the hood changes were made in Catalina (such as the security model) that Fusion had to be modified to accommodate.

Catalina is supported by Fusion 11.5 and 12.  (See the host OS compatibility list at https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2088571

I’d consider going right to Fusion 12. Fusion 11.x reached its end of general support on 12/19/2020, while Fusion 12 is still fully supported. Fusion Player 12 also has the advantage of having a free personal use license if you’re not using it for commercial purposes.

Thank you! I ended up upgrading to a VMWare Fusion 12 Player free license 🙂

Working fine now.
