Updating macOS from within a Virtual Machine

Hello,

Running VMWF 11.5.7 on macOS 10.15.6.

My current VM is running macOS 10.8, which I'd like to update to 10.12.

When I try to run the OS installer from the VM desktop, I get: this copy of the install macOS Sierra application is damaged and cant be used to install macOS.

Guessing that I'm going about this the wrong way.

Assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

SR

Did you try the most obvious and download the package again ?

I did try, but I was unable to download. Could not "find" the file in the app store. Maybe because I'm running Catalina now? When I tried to run the subject installer from my iMac, I get: This copy of the "install macOS" application is to old to be opened on this version of macOS. Is there any other avenue I could take? SR

So apple installers signatures expire, and can't be used.  You'll need to download the installer from a machine that is old enough to install that version of OSX.  It might work inside the virtual machine, but I'm not sure - worth a try.

Hi SR,

You can download macOS Sierra from here:

Oh cool, didn't know they'd opened that up for non-developers.
