Updated Ubuntu-Now Keybord Doesn't Work

I just updated my copy of Ubuntu under Fusion 3 to the new 10.04 LTS, but now when I try to login, my keyboard doens't work, meaning I can't even get logged in! What do I need to do to renable my keyboard to function so I can start logging in again?

On another note, I've installed some software for a seminar I'm goiung to tomorrow in another VM, and the software is pretty huge. After tomorrow's seminar, I will no longer need it on my VM since I usually run it on my desktop. After I uninstall the software, what can I do with my Virtual Hard Disk to shrink it so that I can free up that extra space on my Mac's hard drive?

Thanks a bunch for all your help!

Nathan

Fresh install on my imac with ubuntu 10.04 and I can't login / type in my password because the keyboard doesn't work.

after some googling I found this forum thread that has some temporary solutions such as a virtual keyboard
