Update Errors for VMWare Tools with Fusion 2.02 and Ubuntu 8.04 VM

I downloaded and installed VMWare Fusion 2.02. Installation on OSX 10.4.11 was successful. However, when opening a pre-existing VM (Ubuntu 8.04) I'm prompted to update/install VMWare-Tools. Same prompts for WinXP VM. The VM Tools in Ubuntu is generating errors at a couple of points regarding compilers; one example is as follows:

Using compiler "/usr/bin/gcc". Use environment variable CC to override.

Your kernel was built with "gcc" version "4.2.3", while you are trying to use

"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.4". This configuration is not recommended and

VMware Tools may crash if you'll continue. Please try to use exactly same

compiler as one used for building your kernel. Do you want to go with compiler

"/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.4" anyway? Found VMware Tools CDROM mounted

at /media/cdrom1. Ejecting device /dev/scd0

I don't know what to do to fix this problem. Any suggestions? The VM still works, but VMWare Tools isn't properly updated.

I had that problem a few months ago and decided to try entering "yes" to the question "Do you want to go with compiler "/usr/bin/gcc" version "4.2.4" anyway?" Everything worked fine afterwards. I think the problem might simply be one of labeling (i.e. the kernel was actually built with version 4.2.4, or the gcc on Ubuntu 8.04 is actually 4.2.3).

Thanks for the suggestion. I re-ran the installer and said yes and it seems to have completed the VM-Ware Tools successfully this time. Thanks again.
