Hi I'm trying to install the feature update from Microsoft to Windows 10 May 2019 update(1903). Post installing updates when system gets restart to finish the update it will get stuck at boot. I see only windows logo, and not even the spinning wheel. I'm using VMWare profession version 11.1. Can somebody help ?
I had this issue using Fusion 11.1.0 (13668589) on MACOS 10.4.5 trying to upgrade from Windows 10 (1809) to 1903.
Issue:
Performed a system update and downloaded and installed Windows 10 (1903) using Windows update.
Restarted VM. Post install update hangs on black screen showing blue windows flag. Left overnight. Process was using 99 - 100% CPU during this time.
Only fix, to restart the VM but this reverts you back to build 1809.
Tried manual download of update instead of using Windows Update. Same issue again during restart.
Fix:
Power off VM.
Go into VM settings.
Under Processors and Memory - Advanced Options
UNTICK: Enable Hypervisor Applications
Enable Code Profiling
Enable IOMMU
Powered on VM. Ran the upgrade again. Restarted. VM should now update (will take a good 20 mins depending on processor) You will know it's working as you will see and upgrade percentage monitor adivisng you of the status. Expect several restarts of the VM.
Once updated, I powered off and then cleaned up VM.
Again, go into VM settings.
Under Processors and Memory - Advanced Options
TICK: Enable Hypervisor Applications
Enable Code Profiling
Enable IOMMU
Restarted VM and voila. all updated and working fine. Let me know if this helps.
There is a known issue that Windows 10 1903/19H1 build 18362 is stuck in the startup process if the VM's "Enable IOMMU in this virtual machine" settings is turned on, please see VMware Knowledge Base .
Is the "Enable IOMMU in this virtual machine" checkbox on your VM's "Processor & Memory" setting checked. If yes, please see if your VM can power on after unchecking the checkbox.
Well done, worked like a charm.
Thanks.
