This is hard to explain but I have just installed a mapping program that installed just fine.
Problem is the program requires that the original disk be inserted each time one uses the program.
When I try, the program does not recognize the disk.
When the same program is installed on a Real PC it works fine. Of course that is not my goal.
Hope someone has had a similar problem and can help.
Thanks
Larryb
ide1:0.fileName = "/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion/isoimages/antivirus.iso"
Looks like the The McAfee anti-virus ISO has remained mounted and is a Known Issue in the Fusion 2.0.0 Release Notes.
Just select Use Physical Drive from the Virtual Machine > CD/DVD menu to force mount the disc you're trying to use.
which platform do you use ?
One thing you can try is to install daemon-tools in the guest and install the app from an iso - then you can later use it from the same iso again.
This does not always work ...
Sometimes you also need to use a real CD-drive with
ide1:0.deviceType = "cdrom-raw"
don't know if that works in ESX ...

Wow almost all of your answer was over my head!
I use a Mac Leopard with VMWare Fusion and XP.
The program I am referring to is a Lowrance MapCreate 7.
Hope that helps you.
I think when you say iso you mean an image of the original disk. Correct?
If so how would I do that?
I'll research daemon-tools as I'm not familiar with it.
Thanks
Larryb
I'm sorry, I'm unable to reply as I do not know how to produce a vmx file. I looked at the two links but did not get any smarter.
I don't want to waste your time.
Thanks anyway.
Larryb
The vmx-file represents your virtual machine. You should find it in the directory of your VM - it uses the extension .vmx

This is totally new to me but I did find a file in VM folder that has a .vmx extension. I opened it and the copied this:

Thanks for the input and I will be reading for awhile.
I tried the vm library and ctr click and selecting show in finder but it only showed my Windows XP no other files. (on the right window.)
I am clicking on the right window from the Library not the left. Actually it did not make any difference.
I must be doing something incorrectly so I'll read some more.
Larryb
PS I just read the beginners guide and that was really useful. I found all that I have been requested to provide. I thank you.
I tried the vm library and ctr click and selecting show in finder but it only showed my Windows XP no other files. (on the right window.)
Thats because it's a Document Package and you then need to ctr-click the Virtual Machine Package and select Show Package Contents
I managed to copy the .vmx file so here it is:

That was the problem and I think you. Must admit this has helped me know that I will have to study a little using this software. XP with Fusion.
This map program is one of those that the Mac can't handle so that is why I went with Fusion.
Thanks again
Larryb
