Ubuntu guest won't connect to Mac internet; Missing networking, vmnet1, vmnet8 files

Hi all,

I'm using VMWare Fusion 8.5 with a macOS Sierra 10.12.5 host OS and Ubuntu 14.04 guest OS and I'm having trouble getting the guest to connect to the internet.

I'm currently using the NAT option.

I'm guessing that part of the problem is that the networking file and vmnet1 and vmnet8 directories are missing from the /Library/Preferences/VMWare Fusion directory of the host OS.

I've used VM Ware Fusion on other macs and don't remember having to manually create these files though.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you very much!

Hi,

Only issues with Ubuntu?

I have Fusion, not with additional files and NAT works fine!
NIC correctly working in Fusion?

Ubuntu is the only OS I use in VMWare so I haven't been able to test with others.

I also noticed that the Networker Adapter Settings are grayed out and cannot be changed in the settings, which isn't the case on my other machines using VMWare Fusion in which the VM is working correctly

Hi,

I installed Ubuntu on my mac, but not getting the issues you experience...

But from what I read, please try this:

Manually uninstalling VMware Fusion (1017838) | VMware KB

Manually uninstall. Reboot you're MAC and install it again.

Hiwalleeve

Welcome to Fusion community.

I'm guessing that part of the problem is that the networking file and vmnet1 and vmnet8 directories are missing from the /Library/Preferences/VMWare Fusion directory of the host OS.

Could you try re-launch Fusion and see if you can find these files?
